Winamp 3 is out for about 8 months, no bugfix release since then, even if the Nullsoft team said that it was pushed too soon by AOL. I'm still sticking to Winamp 2, much lighter, and bug free on my computer.

What's going on by Nullsoft? Justin Frankel's .plan seems to indicate that work is done toward nsv (Nullsoft (Streaming|S as in Soft) Video), and retrofitting some Winamp 3 features into Winamp 2. Brennan Underwood's .plan confirms that Winamp 3 does not mean the end of Winamp 2. Winamp 3 is showed more as a proof of concept of Wasabi than a replacement for its predecessor.

All in all it doesn't sound bad, I'm upgrading my 2.81 to 2.91. One question remains... how are they going to increment the version number for the 2 series? Only 0.09 left!
