Poorman's TrackBack

Freeroller.net TrackBack brought me a HTTP 500 when trying to ping Chiara's blog... so I wrote the Poorman's TrackBack to test the server quickly... REST clients are really quick to write. This is a pure HTML 4.01 strict + javascript page, no font, no div, no css, enjoy :-)

Books received...

The day I change my blog layout, I've received two books: Paper Prototyping: The Fast and Easy Way to Design and Refine User Interfaces by Carolyn Snyder The Non-Designer's Design Book by Robin Williams What I fear is to find plenty of mistakes and ugly things in my new layout after reading those  […]

New layout soon

In the next few days I'll put a new layout for this blog, removing completely this standard theme, for something lightweight, very CSS oriented. By the way, looking at my referers, I see this: http://wwwi.if.se/devforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=81. Unfortunately, wwwi.if.se doesn't seem to exist,  […]

Blogging industrialization: the race

A new era has begun. Today a blog has comments, trackback (is pingback dead?), referers, a GeoUrl, BlogChalk, BloggerCode, is linked in NewsIsFree, Syndic8te, Weblogs.com, Technorati, TechNews, javablogs, BlogShares, LinkedIn, neeeeeext. A true mess :-) One day perhaps an Emergent Democracy is going  […]

The joy of having a Feeds page

By default, Roller creates a Feeds page where it puts all the newsfeeds you have registered. Even if mines is not linked anywhere anymore, Google keeps on crawling it regularly. And since I've some very different feeds, my referers (they are not a lot, quite normal given my posting frequency) are  […]

Poland is now in the big leagues

A well-balanced point of view from Maciej Ceglowski about an article in the Wall Street Journal stating that "Hard to believe, but Poland is now arguably a more consequential global power than either France or Germany." I won't jump to conclusions: I don't know Poland, I know a bit my  […]

I should read "Getting things done"

After the reinstallation of my tablet, I started to work on a blog design. With so many new people subscribing to freeroller.net and using the same theme as me, my poor blog is drown in the mass. And the result is... nothing. I simply went astray trying all filters for drawing borders, and I  […]

Removing NewsMonster is easy

Dumb me. I received an e-mail this morning pointing me to this page. It would have been so easy. Why didn't I find this button?

Sans titre

Dave Winer's Editorial: Chirac is a politician, so he must back-pedal now. The French made it personal, I heard an interview with a French official who sneered that Americans didn't understand the world. I hated that. This is the problem with understanding. We didn't made it personal, and I don't  […]

One day I'll go there

Found this site through geisha asobi blog. When I see those pictures, I've a so big desire to go there. Those are not the tourist catchy photos, but what I feel looking at them is some sense of nostalgia, for a country I don't know. Places in the country, old industrial buildings, faded houses...  […]

Thanks Anthony, thanks JavaLobby

The switch to a new home for FreeRoller is a relief. Especially for occasional bloggers like me who just want it to work when they have an immediate need to write.

spaces going pro?

Diego Doval wonders if he should push spaces (to keep it simple: a PIM on steroids) on a professionaly supported software side. The market of PIMs is really a niche, with to my knowledge, three major players: Lotus Notes, Palm Desktop and Microsoft Outlook. Among the three, two are usually given by  […]

Getting rid of NewsMonster

Quite simple after all, even if I'm not sure to have really removed it, it doesn't appear anymore in new windows. So what to do? Look into all your .rdf files (F3 or grep -i -r are your friends) containing the string "newsm". Then, get rid of all the XML elements directly containing the  […]

Yesterday I've tried NewsMonster...

... maybe the news aggregator of future, but not of today. I let the thing aggregate several times, but nothing appeared in Moz. Some times when a site is not reachable, the whole process seem to be blocked... which is bad with freeroller in the current state. A thing I'm not sure about is the mix  […]

Nothing to blog

Nothing much to express this month. Began a new project at work, more concentrated on administrative tasks than on coding. Fed up with those wars/anti wars stories, went to the demo last saturday, sad faces everywhere. Mentally tired.

Feedreader went Free Software

I didn't notice before, since 29th of december 2003, Feedreader is licensed under the term of the GPL. Sadly it requires Borland Delphi 6.0 Professional to be compiled (1000$ for version 7), and I haven't done Pascal for at least... 6 years. So I don't think I'll volunteer for helping (I've never  […]
